Summary module description:
Aims:
This module aims to provide students with experience of the procedures followed in initiating and conducting a research project. A research question will be formulated and the appropriate methodology selected to address this question.
Assessable learning outcomes:
•statement of a clearly formulated aim
•assemble and organise material and articulate clearly and concisely
•reasoned discussion of results

Time planning for extended period of work.
Outline content:
A topic will be chosen in consultation with the module convenor, on a subject area initiated by the student. An appropriate supervisor (or supervisors) will be appointed. In consultation with the supervisor, the student will undertake some background reading, agree the approach and methodology to be employed, and prepare a research proposal. If relevant, a submission for ethical approval will be made. The project will be undertaken in the Spring term.

The Research Proposal contributes 10% and the Research Report contributes 90% of the total course work.
