Aims:
This course aims to introduce students to the staff and the working ethos of the School of Pharmacy during Welcome Week.

Assessable learning outcomes:
This module is not assessed. The material covered in the module provides students with an un understanding of the expectations that staff have of them, and what support they can expect from staff. Students will:
Know how to work effectively throughout their degree and exercise effective time management and note taking skills;
Know how to find support and information within a University environment
Know about the Pharmacy Code of Conduct for MPharm students and expectation regarding their professional training

Outline content:
Introduction to the Reading MPharm degree and expectations of the course.
Challenges to be faced during the MPharm degree and how the student can be best equipped to work effectively - to include an introduction to time management skills, note taking skills and support available. The importance of excellent written and oral communication skills and some guidelines on how to attain the standards required. Introduction to IT skills and data retrieval skills relevant to pharmacy.
Brief description of teaching and learning methods:There will be a short course of seminars introducing the main content, linked to web-based resources. Classes and informal team-based sessions will provide an introduction to IT skills and data retrieval.

This is an introductory module for the Part 1 welcome week. There is no assessment.

Formative assessment methods:

Penalties for late submission:
Penalties for late submission on this module are in accordance with the University policy.
The following penalties will be applied to coursework which is submitted after the deadline for submission:

  • where the piece of work is submitted up to one calendar week after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): 10% of the total marks available for the piece of work will be deducted from the mark;
  • where the piece of work is submitted more than one calendar week after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): a mark of zero will be recorded.

  • You are strongly advised to ensure that coursework is submitted by the relevant deadine. You should note that it is advisable to submit work in an unfinished state rather than to fail to submit any work.
