Summary module description:
The aim of this module is to give students a practical research experience in the field of clinical linguistics and neuroscience of language in order to familiarise them with practical issues within these fields, either in a research or in a clinical setting. The students undertake 80 hours' work with a member of staff, usually working on a research project, performing research related duties as speciffied by their supervisor. At the end of their placement, they write a report.

Aims:

Assessable learning outcomes:
By the end of the module, the students should be able to:
- give an accurate account or a price of practical work they carried out
- understand and summarise the rationale and the implications (theoretical or practical) of the work they carried out

Additional outcomes:
The student will also be able to:
- work as part of a team
- communicate clearly

Outline content:
The student chooses a ‘placement’ out of a list of placements provided. They contact the relevant staff member within the School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences early in the first 2 weeks of the Autumn term. The ‘supervisor’ will provide the student with practical work to undertake and this work should be equally spread in the Autumn, Spring and Summer terms. The nature of this work should be confirmed by emails, copied to the Module Convenor.
