Summary module description:
This module aims to develop entrepreneurial skills and provide you with a range of entrepreneurial ideas. We will learn to identify business opportunities and turn them into a business, finance entrepreneurship and lean start-up to ensure effective market entry and sustainable growth. This module will equip you with:

• Entrepreneurial skills including networking, team building, creativity and presentation skills
• Knowledge on accessing finance and other financial resources to make your ideas a reality
• Inspiration and confidence to use various approaches (effectual, causal and strategic) to start your own business and followed-up by advanced start-up simulation techniques
• Potential solutions for innovation and market entry, use of advanced technology and IT, business model canvas design.


Assessable learning outcomes:
By the end of the module it is expected that programme members should be able to:

• Evaluate critically the applicability of entrepreneurial logics to specific market contexts (effectual, strategic and causal logic to start the business and develop strategies)
•Describe, analyse and evaluate the sources finance based on appreciating the differences between available funding schemes, instruments, support ecosystem of accelerator programs, and financing strategies;
•Design and evaluate growth strategies in entrepreneurship. Understand how a business owner can create and grow a successful and a sustainable business building on practical experience of business owners;
•Apply Ideation and Lean Start-up creativity techniques to create own business building on successful case studies on lean start-ups and managing creativity;
•Employ SimVenture – a simulation software that helps starting a business utilizing simulation techniques.
•Critically reflect on their business start-up techniques and strategic growth using business model canvas , business model you and lan thiming approach
•Demonstrate an understanding of the implications of their recommendations with other disciplines.

Additional outcomes:
The module is an opportunity for programme members to develop their entrepreneurial and creative skills and their ability to work individually and in groups to start a business. Programme members are encouraged to develop additional e-leadership and simulation skills by use of relevant web resources and SimVenture software.

•Simulation techniques to learn start-ups

Field trip in London by bus and visiting two business incubators in London (including Google Campus in London), social networking event are part of the module.

Brief description of teaching and learning methods:
The module uses a blended-learning approach, incorporating self-study, face-to-face workshop(s), guest lectures and online tutor support. Key module content will be delivered in 5 one-day (7-hour) workshops. These workshops comprise a mixture of content delivery, discussion in class and break-out into group sessions.

Other information on summative assessment:
In weeks 2 and 3 students are required to work in teams upon completion Vision card and Founders card to identify and validate business opportunities which are relevant for their particular interests. Two pieces of work will include individual card completion (10%) and oral assessment and presentation (worth 20%).

Formative assessment methods:
Team and individual work will provide opportunities to improve performance and start up business (e.g. through feedback provided, group work and brainstorming sessions) but does not contribute towards the overall module mark.
