Summary module description:

This module provides students with information on placement opportunities for their year in industry and to support them in the application process. The module also helps students derive optimum benefit from the placement by explaining the assessment process and providing them with information pertinent to the workplace, prior to commencement of work.


Aims:


  • To give students information on placement opportunities for their year in industry

  • To explain the variety and location of potential placements

  • To describe the process by which placements are obtained

  • To prepare students for the application process

  • To prepare students for their placement year

  • To ensure that students receive and understand the guidance material available throughout their placement year

  • To ensure that students know how to access the guidance material

  • To explain the assessment process for their placement year

  • To ensure that students understand the significance and purpose of Industrial Training Handbook


Assessable learning outcomes:


  • Students will identify suitable placement opportunities and receive offers from placement companies.

  • Those students who decide to take a placement will have a successful year in industry


Additional outcomes:


  • Students will make an informed decision about whether or not to undertake industrial training

  • Students will have the ability to make sound judgements on which companies to apply to

  • Students will feel confident that the placement they have chosen is a good opportunity for them

Preparation for the placement year in any food company/organisation

Brief description of teaching and learning methods:

Seminars and Workshops. Other small group or 1:1 meetings will take place with members of staff as required.

Penalties for late submission:
The Module Convener will apply the following penalties for work submitted late:

  • where the piece of work is submitted after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): 10% of the total marks available for that piece of work will be deducted from the mark for each working day[1] (or part thereof) following the deadline up to a total of five working days;
  • where the piece of work is submitted more than five working days after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): a mark of zero will be recorded.
