Summary module description:
This module is designed to complement students’ experience of teaching in school. It provides an opportunity for them to consider in depth an aspect of their practice, drawing on research to carry out an investigation to inform and evaluate their practice.

Aims:
To further develop knowledge and skills in a named aspect of teaching and learning.
To develop critical and reflective thinking.
To encourage reflective practice and further study throughout a teaching career.

Assessable learning outcomes:
On successful completion of the modules students will:
• Have developed their knowledge and skills in a particular aspect of teaching and learning
• Have critically reflected on the current research relating to their chosen focus
• Become practiced in critical and reflective thinking
• Be able to analyse what they read, observe and do
• Have learnt relevant enquiry skills
• Demonstrated the ability to write in an appropriate academic register
• Contribute to the improvement agenda to ensure impact on children’s outcomes.

Outline content:
Students will have identified an aspect of teaching and learning. Students will be offered input on expectations for masters' level and methods of enquiry. Students will engage with related literature and reflectively consider implications for pedagogy.

Global context:
The global context is an integral part of a school based module, as all school engage with global citizenship as part of the curriculum.

Brief description of teaching and learning methods:
Lectures and workshops, e-learning, group activities, practical school based investigation.
