Summary module description:
The module is an individual student project consisting of the undertaking of the design and the site operation planning and programming of a specified development project.
Aims:
To give practical experience in the basic construction management techniques related to the current practice of construction operation management.
Assessable learning outcomes:
For a specified, proposed new building facility, the student will produce an outline design, key aspects of the detail design, and a programme for the site operations required for construction.
Outline content:
Students will be provided with a design brief for a proposed building facility, for which, working individually with tutorial guidance, the students will produce:
1.The design brief
2.The outline design
3.An initial stage cost forecast.
4.A method statement for the construction
5.A programme for the site operations
Brief description of teaching and learning methods:
Students will undertake the project individually with tutorial guidance and brief lectures on key aspects.

The Module Convener will apply the following penalties for work submitted late, in accordance with the University policy.
•where the piece of work is submitted up to one calendar week after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): 10% of the total marks available for the piece of work will be deducted from the mark for each working day (or part thereof) following the deadline up to a total of five working days;
•where the piece of work is submitted more than five working days after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): a mark of zero will be recorded.

You are strongly advised to ensure that coursework is submitted by the relevant deadline. You should note that it is advisable to submit work in an unfinished state rather than to fail to submit any work.
