Life at Modern Languages

Dolche Vita, Whiteknights campusAs a student in Modern Languages and European Studies you are an important part of our Department and School and we will help you to settle in and to make the most of Welcome Week. This gives each student an excellent opportunity to make many new friends, join clubs and societies and meet key people within their department.

Student Societies

One group of people you will meet during Welcome Week are the reps for the Modern Language Societies. We have four student run societies within the department, covering German, French, Italian and Spanish and Latin America and we encourage you to participate in social evenings, seminars and events as you widen your social and academic community, both  within your subject area and the university.

Student/Staff Committees

During your time with us, you will be able to take part in the Student/Staff Committees within your subject area, giving you and your peers an active voice within the department and providing the department with valuable feedback.

You will be able to attend lectures, seminars and visits throughout the year, which are arranged to engage you with your colleagues, friends and staff within the department.

Sports and Clubs

As well as the language based activities on offer there are a wide range of sporting, special interest, and social clubs offered by the Student Union that you will be able to take advantage of. Whether it's Belly dancing, Vintage and Retro, Lego or Zoology there's bound to be something for you and the perfect way for you to balance your love of language with other interests.

In addition to the wide variety of activities available to you, we have a dedicated teaching staff and friendly support staff, who are here to guide you during your time here at university.
