Researcher's Night
The University is delighted to host Researchers' Night 2011, and we look forward to welcoming you to the campus.
Researchers' Night is a Europe-wide event and the University of Reading is one of four UK venues opening its doors and inviting everyone to find out about its research. At Reading our theme is 'Language, text and power' - one of our multi-disciplinary research strengths in arts and humanities.

Workshop in Digital Humanities
Drawing together scholars and students involved in digital and computar-assissted research, this one-day workshop intends to promote discussion, collaborations and support to digital research and teaching across the humanities
By focusing on digital editions, the workshop will discuss the effects of new media in the humanities. It will explore the multi-level interactions of the new technologies with the humanities and the methodologies and approaches involved.
The workshop will be taking place in room G09, Old Whiteknights House, University of Reading on the 16th September 2011.

Alternative ways of giving feedback
The Society for Italian Studies (SIS) and the Department of Modern Languages and European Studies at Reading are sponsoring this workshop at the University of Reading on 23rd September 2011. This is the third of a series of events hosted by various institutions nationwide and devoted to the research on and practice of Italian language teaching. Even though the workshop focuses on Italian language, the topics being debated and their practical aspect should be of interest to all language teaching practitioners. Work in Progress seminars in Italian Studies
The next seminar in the 'Work in Progress' series, held by the Italian Programme for the Department of Modern Languages and European Studies will be led by Dr Paola Nasti and is entitled 'The Mysyteries of Peter'.
The seminar will take place on Wednesday 18th May between 12 and 1pm in HumSS room 106 and is open to all.
Italian Studies Research Seminar Series
The Italian Studies programme are holding a series of Spring Term research seminars. The final seminar of the series will be lead by Alex Marlow-Mann and is entitled 'Gold and Dust: Postmodernism and the New Neapolitan Cinema'.
The seminar is open to all and will take place on 25th March 2011 at 2pm in Humanities and Social Sciences room 124.
"Languages at War" Conference
Professor Hilary Footitt is currently co-organising the "Languages at War" International conference, which will once again be held at the Imperial War Museum, London. The conference which has four Key Note speakers and has so far attracted twenty-two papers from all over the world, will be held from the 7th to the 9th of April 2011. The Imperial War Museum will also be giving a session on its relevant collections as part of the conference.
"Dante"
Dr Paola Nasti has been invited to organise and direct a session on "Dante" at the next biennial conference of the 'Society for Italian Studies in the UK' which is due to be held in May 2011.
"Science, Learning and Censorship"
Dr Lisa Sampson is currently involved in the organisation of the "Science, Learning and Censorship in the Academics" conference. this will be a one-day event to be held in London on the 1st of July 2011.
Italian Linguistics in the UK Workshop
Dr Frederico Faloppa, with the assistance of Dr Chiara Ciarlo, will be holding a one-day workshop in Reading, during June 2011. This is the 2nd workshop held under the banner of the 'Italian Linguistics in the UK' and will be a full day of papers given by wide range of speakers from across the UK.
The workshop is supported by the Department of Modern Languages, University of Reading and the Linguistic Association of Great Britian.
