How to book
Bookings can be made:
- in person during normal Museum opening times
- by telephone by calling 0118 378 8660
- by emailing merlevents@reading.ac.uk
- or online using the booking form
Please note that bookings are processed on a first come first served basis during office hours from Tuesday to Friday.
Data protection
When booking a course or ticket your details will be held on our database so that we can contact you regarding your booking. You will also be offered the option of joining our mailing list to receive information about future events and activities at the Universitys Museums and Special Collections.
Data is collected and held in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1988, and the University policy. It will not be passed on to third parties.
How to pay
Payment can be made by cheque or by cash.

Payments for courses and workshops
Payment must be received within 4 working days of a booking being made. Your place is not secure until paid for in full.
Cancellation (courses and workshops)
If you cancel your booking more than four weeks before the start of the course start date, all fees paid will be refunded. If you cancel your booking less than four weeks before the course start date, fees paid will not be refunded unless the course was full and your place can be re-sold.
If your course is cancelled by the Museum, a full refund of course fees paid will be issued.
Payments for tickets (other events)
Payment must be received within 4 working days of a booking being made. Your place is not secure until paid for in full.
Payments for all tickets are non-refundable.
Concessions
When offered the concession rate is available to children aged 16 and under, students, registered unemployed, registered disabled and retired people. Please bring proof of status.
Cancellation (other events)
If the event is cancelled by the Museum, a full refund will be issued.
Venue bookings
A signed 'Confirmation of booking' form (sent to you by Museum staff) must be received within 14 days of making the provisional booking
Bookings are not confirmed until the 'Confirmation of booking' form has been received.
Cancellations (venue bookings)
Bookings may be cancelled only in writing (including email) and are subject to the following charges dependent on the date of cancellation:
Day before event date or no-show on event date: 100% of total fee
Between 2 and 7 calendar days of event start: 50% of total fee
Between 8 and 28 calendar days of evnet start: 25% or total fee
More than 28 calendar days in advance of event date: no fees payable other than reimbursement for any specialist costs agreed before cancellation
