One factor apparent in many rural crafts is the importance of carefully selected, naturally sourced raw material. Another is that additional sources of income can also be significant to support what is a very labour intensive activity.

Streatley lies deep in rural Berkshire and nestles beneath the Ridgeway, an ancient track that winds across the Downs. Here, Mary Kinipple practises one of those most ancient of crafts – weaving – using wool from her own sheep and dyes that she produces from plants in her garden.
