About us

Dr Elizabeth Johnston, Director Doctors

Medical services are provided by a team of eight doctors (five full-time and three part-time). Patients may see whichever doctor they choose, but are strongly recommended to keep to the same doctor during any one episode of illness.

Nursing Staff

Nursing services are provided by a team of 5 nurses and a health care assistant. They have a mix of skills and specialities therefore it is helpful if you are able to explain the nature of your appointment to the receptionist so that the most appropriate nurse can see you.

Physiotherapists

We have a team of experienced Chartered Physiotherapists who can provide treatment on referral from any GP in Berkshire West.

This clinic is provided by the University of Reading Medical Practice, following a procurement process run by the Berkshire West PCT in 2010. The contract started in April 2011 and runs for three years. As such the partners of the University of Reading Medical Practice hold a commercial interest in the service.

Treatment is available for a whole range of musculoskeletal problems, from backache to sports injuries, arthritis to headaches. Your therapist will give you a thorough assesment to determine the source of your pain and then devise a treatment programme to help return you to full fitness.

Neurological and women's health problems are seen by the appropriate specialist physiotherapist at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

Mental Health

The Practice provides the service of a Mental Health Advisor

This service is generally accessible following a consultation with a university counsellor or GP.

Other Staff

A team of reception staff is available to help in making appointments and dealing with queries concerning the use of the Medical Practice. Doctors have their own secretaries who will take messages.

Appointments

Patients are normally seen by appointment, which may be made in person, via the internet or by telephone. If a patient feels they need to be seen the same day and there are no free appointments, they will be able to speak to the duty doctor or nurse, who will make appropriate arrangements for their care. Booked nurse appointments are available.  Home visits can  be made for the very ill.  However, we would encourage patients whenever possible to attend the surgery where we are able to provide care most effectively.  Home visits should be requested before 10.00am wherever possible please.

Out-of-hours

Outside of surgery hours calls are automatically transferred to WestCall, the out-of-hours service.
