Hi all! Welcome to the home of the University of Reading SIAM Student Chapter!

We are a student chapter of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, (SIAM) and the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA). We are run by a committee of PhD students from the Department Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Reading. Membership is open to those from all mathematical and related disciplines within the university, past and present.

We aim to encourage the exchange and development of ideas and information between all of our members from different mathematical backgrounds and at various stages of study, via a programme of events and activities throughout the year. We also hope to develop links to industry, through partnerships with relevant organisations, to provide our members with information and insight into continuing mathematical research as a career option.

Events include:

  • Welcome events: to introduce our new committee at the start of the academic year and to welcome students back in the new term
  • Seminars: we host a fortnightly seminar series with internal PhD students presenting their work and twice a term we invite external PhD student speakers
  • Annual Conference: we host a one day conference each year around May/June where we invite keynote speakers, student speakers and student posters

Our events page will be updated with details of upcoming seminars, conferences and invited guest speakers.

If you would like to become a member of the chapter and be kept informed about upcoming events, please use the join form.
