About us

Pressure fieldThe Department of Mathematics and Statistics (part of the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences) at the University of Reading is internationally renowned for both teaching and research in mathematics, statistics and their applications. We are a partner in the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in 'Mathematics of Planet Earth', with Imperial College London.

The department achieved 90% for overall student satisfaction in the 2015 National Student Survey (NSS). This is the seventh year in a row that we have achieved at least 90% for overall satisfaction in the NSS.

86% of our research was recognised as World Leading or Internationally Excellent in the most recent (2014) Research Excellence Framework assessment. For details see http://www.reading.ac.uk/maths-and-stats/maths-ref.aspx.

We are part of the larger School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, which includes a world leading meteorology department and several national research centres.
