BSc Mathematics and Statistics

UCAS Code: GG13

Graph over timeMathematics and statistics are closely related subjects, and this degree gives you the opportunity to train in both. After a full grounding in both areas in the first two years, a wide range of specialist choices is available in the third year, allowing you flexibility in terms of the topics studied, according to your own interests.

The mathematics in the programme will cover both pure and applied, and the main emphasis in the statistics modules is on the application of statistical techniques. This programme will therefore provide you with experience and knowledge fundamental for a successful career in a quantitative field.

Transferable skills

The University's Strategy for Teaching and Learning has identified a number of generic transferable skills which all students are expected to have developed by the end of their degree programme. By the end of the programme students are expected to have gained experience and show competence in the following transferable skills: IT (word-processing, using standard, statistics and mathematics software), scientific writing, oral presentation, team-working, problem-solving, use of library resources, time-management, career and management and planning. We also develop skills in statistical consultancy.
