Bonhi Bhattacharya

Mathematics, PhD

BBHATTACHARYAThe University of Reading appealed to me after my first degree because of its excellent postgraduate reputation and especially the Master's course in the Numerical Solution of differential Equations (now called Mathematics of Scientific and Industrial Computation).

I completed the masters degree in 2006 and this gave me the direction, confidence, motivation and opportunity to follow on to a PhD in Food Biosciences and Mathematics, also at Reading.During my PhD I have had the opportunity to work not only in a research environment but also with industrial partners.

"My time at Reading has enabled me to explore the mathematical modelling of cholesterol metabolism in humans, an area which I would not previously have considered as a route for my studies in Mathematics, and I look forward to the direction in which my PhD will take me."

Moss Mokgolele

Mathematics, PhD

MMOKGOLELEI am currently employed as a lecturer of Mathematics in Botswana College of Agriculture.I enjoyed my undergraduate time at Reading very much and so, when my employer offered me study leave, I decided to come back to Reading in October 2005 to read for a PhD.

The atmosphere in the Maths Department in Reading is friendly and helpful and I have enjoyed the social life both in and out of the Department again.

Laura Stewart

Mathematics, PhD

LSTEWARTAfter graduating from the University of Bath with an MMATH in 2005, I spent 6 months in the Mathematics department at Reading working on an externally funded research project. The following year I began my PhD, revisiting and developing many of the ideas generated in my previous research.

"The support of departmental members was fundamental in my choice to return to Reading for further study"

Jenny Morrell

Mathematics, PhD

Jenny completed an MPhys degree with First Class honours in June 2003 and was sponsored by AWE Aldermaston for a PhD.

"The academic and administrative staff were exceedingly helpful, supportive and knowledgeable. My time at Reading helped prepare me to enter my chosen profession with purpose, dedication and enthusiasm for my subject and the wider world. During my time at Reading, I made friendships that will last a lifetime."

Chris Warner

Mathematics, MSc

CSTEWARTChris completed a BSc in Mathematics at Reading with First Class honours in June 2007 and joined the MSc Course in the Mathematics of Scientific and Industrial Computing in October 2007.

"I was brought to Reading on the heels of the Reading Festival, but I've stayed here because the campus is beautiful, the work is really interesting and challenging but best of all, the people (especially in the Department) are some of the nicest you could hope to meet, let alone work with"

Laura Harries

Biometry, MSc

After graduating from Reading with a BSc in Statistics in 2008, Laura continued to study for the MSc in Biometry. After gaining a distinction, she went to work as a Biometrician for Syngenta, a global agri-business, committed to innovative research and development.

"I knew that to pursue a career in a scientific research environment, an MSc is essential, and there is no better training than the MSc in Biometry at Reading. Employers realise this, meaning that Reading has a great reputation throughout industry. Although it was hard work, I really enjoyed my Masters year thanks to the great standard of teaching and the extremely friendly staff, who are always there to help make sure you are reaching your full potential."

Jason Oke

Biometry, MSc

After graduating from the University of Brighton with a BSc in Biological Sciences, Jason came to Reading for postgraduate study in statistics. He completed the Post-Experience Diploma in Statistics followed by an MSc in Biometry.
