Computer Facilities for Students
There are approximately 20 computer facilities on campus with over 600 workstations. External access to some PC facilities is available 24 hours a day using a swipe card. All facilities offer:
- Microsoft Windows
- Microsoft Office (for word processing, spreadsheets, presentation and database work)
- Internet access for WWW and email
- Network file space
- Laser printing (using prepaid printing cards).
Some facilities offer:
- Colour printing
- Scanners
- High capacity storage (including CD writers) and DVD drives.
As well as the general IT facilities there will be facilities within your department including subject-specific software and hardware.
Facilities for your own computer equipment
Students may wish to bring their own computers to the University for use within their own residence and on campus. A broadband network connection is available in each hall study bedroom providing access to the campus network and internet. More details can be found at www.readingconnect.net
Network connections are available in the Main Library for connecting personal laptops to the campus network for email and the web, as well as wireless hotspots on campus.
