Campus life

Our main campus is set in 130 hectares of beautiful parkland. It's the real heart of University life: a green and welcoming place in which to study, live and relax, with a true sense of community and everything you need on your doorstep.

Make yourself at home on our award-winning campus

We want you to enjoy your time at the University of Reading, so we have created a safe and welcoming learning environment. Based in the south of England, just 30 minutes away from London, Reading is an excellent base for you to learn, develop your skills and explore the UK.

In 2014, our main Whiteknights campus was voted number six out of almost 1,500 green spaces eligible to be included in the 2014 Green Flag People's Choice Award. Whiteknights is the only university campus to appear in the top 10.

Study Areas

Our lecture halls, classrooms, IT suites and the library are all within easy reach of each other.

Halls

Most first years live in halls, located either on campus or very nearby.

Wide range of shops

The general store is the largest student union shop in the UK, selling everything from stationery to food, while the Student Union building at the centre of campus includes a bookshop, oriental food store and hairdresser, along with mail and binding services.

Places to relax

The Student Union is home to Café Mondial, Mojo's Bar and our award-winning nightclub, 3sixty. The Reading Film Theatre is also on campus, showing a range of independent, art-house and foreign language films, as well as the occasional blockbuster.

Places to eat

You'll find a wide range of places to grab a bite or a coffee on campus, including Dol.cHe Vita, our modern espresso bar, and Index Café, which serves great coffee and fresh leaf tea in the Henley Business School.

Places to enjoy the view

When the sun is shining - or even when it's not - our campus is a great place to get some fresh air and spend time with friends in the beautiful surroundings. We even have a lake for you to enjoy!

A superb destination for international students

We want you to enjoy your time at Reading, as well as succeed in your studies. That's why from the moment you arrive at the airport, we're here to support you. Starting on your first day you will have a wide range of opportunities to meet new people, make new friends and learn more about British culture.

If you arrive at Heathrow during international welcome week, University of Reading staff will be there to meet you.

For students starting at the beginning of the academic year (usually the end of September or beginning of October) we run a series of welcome events to help you settle in to life in Reading, find your way around and get to know new people.

‘After visiting several open days Reading was the only place I could really see myself living and studying. The campus has a really friendly atmostphere and its location is ideal.’

Our other campuses

Greenlands

Our Greenlands campus, situated on the banks of the Thames near Henley, is truly stunning and an apt location for one of the top business schools in Europe. Greenlands is used by the University's Henley Business School as the base for its MBA and corporate learning. We were delighted to welcome Her Majesty the Queen onto Greenlands' beautifully manicured lawns during the summer of 2012, as the campus was chosen as a venue for one of the region's Diamond Jubilee Celebrations.

London Road campus

The University's Institute of Education, one of the leading providers of teacher training in the UK, recently relocated to its new £30 million home at the historic London Road campus, which was one of the University's original sites.
