Students in autumnThe University of Reading prides itself on being a residential University where the majority of undergraduates as well as many postgraduates live in Halls of Residence. These Halls provide just over 4,000 rooms.

All the Halls are within a mile of the central study facilities and has easy access to shops, banks and social facilities. All Halls are located on bus routes from the town centre.

Each Hall is a vibrant community with its own distinctive character, offering you a secure environment in which to study and relax. Halls vary in style and size so you can choose between a wide range of study, domestic and social facilities.

Benefits of living in Halls of Residence:

  • Welfare and pastoral support for students is provided by a Warden in each Hall, who work alongside the Hall Management Team

  • Security is provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and night security patrols operate in all University Halls

  • Free access is provided to the University network and internet in all rooms

  • Heating, lighting and water charges are all included in the price of your rent

  • Contents insurance is included in the rent

  • A variety of accommodation is available ranging from a self-catered room with shared bathroom facilities to a room with en-suite bathroom and catering provided

  • A range of residency periods are available so you can choose one that suits you and your needs

  • A room in Halls is guaranteed for first year undergraduate students who make Reading their first choice, firmly accept a place and return their application for accommodation by 1 August

  • A room in Halls is guaranteed for postgraduate students who fulfil all the conditions of their academic offer by 1 August, and apply for accommodation by that date

Alternative accommodation

The University has some family accommodation which consists of houses converted into accommodation for mature single students, couples or families.

There is also private accommodation available to rent in the vicinity of the University.
