Multimedia
Multimedia includes traditional audiovisual materials such as video cassettes, slide and picture sets, and newer media such as multimedia CD-ROMs, DVDs and online image, video and sound resources.
Where will I find multimedia in the Library?
Multimedia material like DVDs, video cassettes and CD-ROMs are shelved with the books and arranged by subject using Call Numbers. You can recognise such material by the physical description on the Unicorn catalogue, eg: Physical extent: 1 video cassette Physical extent: 1 CD-ROM
The 4th Floor holds some separate collections which contain multimedia materials:
- Kits and models - is a collection of multimedia kits, scientific models, realia and picture sets.
- Teaching Practice Collection - includes books and sheet music and also DVDs, video cassettes and some CD-ROMs and is primarily for use by students on teacher training courses, although items can be borrowed by any member of the Library regardless of whether they are on a teacher training course.
See the 4th Floor plan for the location of these collections.
Searching Unicorn for multimedia materials
Multimedia material is on the Unicorn catalogue - consult the Unicorn help for instructions on searching for multimedia material on Unicorn.
Can items be borrowed?
Most multimedia items can be borrowed. The number you can borrow will depend on type of material eg you can only borrow five 7-day loans. There is no charge for loans, but any late-returned 7-day loans will incur fines.
Software licence restrictions
Please remember when borrowing software that the licence agreement permits us to lend it to members of the University but it is for your own private study and research. Under no circumstances can this material be copied, lent to other people or networked on more than one machine.
Student teachers should be aware that if taking CD-ROMs into schools during teaching practice they should not lend the material to any other teacher and the CD-ROM is to be used on a standalone machine. If networking is required the school should be encouraged to buy the CD-ROM themselves and apply for a multiple user licence.
