Searching for theses

Use Unicorn’s Advanced search to limit your search to the Library’s collection of PhD theses.

Searching for theses on a topic

  1. Click on Advanced search on the Quick Search screen.
  2. Type your subject keywords in the words or phrase box.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen where the search limits are listed. Most categories have a picklist of selections to choose from.
  4. Click on the picklist arrow next to the ‘collection’ box and select "Theses (University of Reading)" from the alphabetical list of collections.
  5. Click on the Search button to find all University of Reading theses on that topic.

Searching for theses produced in a specific school/department

  1. Go to the Advanced search as above.
  2. Type in the author box a keyword from the name of the department plus the word "reading", eg chemistry reading
  3. Make sure your ‘collection’ limit is set to "Theses (University of Reading)" using the instructions above.
  4. Click on the Search button to find all University theses produced in that school or department.

Please note: departmental names have changed over time, in particular the University reorganised departments into schools in 2002 - to find recently received theses you will need to search with keywords from the school name.
