Search results

If your search finds more than one match it will give you a list of all the titles. You may see two records for the same journal, for example:

Search results showing two entries for the journl Food Chemistry

If the title has [electronic resource] next to it, this is the online version. The other entry is for our printed copies in the Library.

Finding out which volumes we have

In print

To find out if we have the volume you need in print in the Library click on record for our printed holdings (the second one in the example above). The record will show you which volumes we hold eg:

Our holdings of Food Chemistry

In this example, the dash/hyphen after the year indicates that we have a continuing subscription, so we have almost everything from 1976 to the present day in print

Online

To find out if the volume you need is available online, click on the URL link under the title. This will link you to our E-journals Finder and display details of the years available and give you a link to the journal’s website, for example:

Display from the E-Journals Finder showing the years available and links a link to the e-journal

This shows that we have volumes from 1995 to the present day via the ScienceDirect Freedom Collection. Click on the Collection link to go to the e-journal.

Finding journals in the Library

When you click on the title of the journal you will see details of the location of the printed volumes in the Library. Unicorn displays the following Call Number information for the journal Food Chemistry:

Call Numbers for the journal Food Chemistry

There are three different Call Numbers indicating that volumes of this journal can be found in three different locations:

  • The top Call Number is for the most recent volumes (from 1992 to the present) and these are shelved on the 2nd Floor at Periodical Folio--664.005.
  • The middle Call Number gives the location for volumes 35-42, 1990-1991 which are on the 2nd Floor at Periodical--664.005. This journal has two different locations on the 2nd Floor because it changed size in 1992, so the volumes from 1990 and 1991 are shelved in the normal-size periodical section and the more recent ones in the Folio (larger) size periodical section.
  • The earliest volumes (1-34, from 1976 to 1989) are shelved in our Off-site Store and can be requested.
