About the Online Card Catalogue
What is the Online Card Catalogue?
The Online Card Catalogue contains scanned images of the Library card catalogue as it stood in the summer of 2005. The heading on each author card can be string searched, using the asterisk as a wildcard (see the Searching tips on the login page for examples). The Subject Catalogue option provides access to the post-1958 subject catalogue headings.
Use it to find:
- items in Rare Book and other Special Collections acquired before 1979, most of which do not appear in Unicorn, the online catalogue
- items in the Main Collection acquired before 1979, many of which are only briefly recorded in Unicorn, if at all.
When you have found an entry click on View to display the card image. A browser plug-in is required to view these images. This only needs to be installed the first time you view a card image.
Location information is not always up-to-date
The card catalogue was not fully maintained in later years. You should check the location of anything you find in the Online Card Catalogue in the Unicorn catalogue before going to the shelf or requesting an item to be read at the Special Collections Service. Contact Rose-Ann Movsovic, Collections Manager, before making a special trip to consult a particular item found in the Online Card Catalogue.
Help
Some tips on searching the catalogue are available on the log-in page. Please read these if you are about to use the Online Card Catalogue for the first time or if you have any difficulty retrieving information from it.
Please note that the Online Card Catalogue does not provide the same facilities for detailed searching and indication of availability as Unicorn.
