  • Council for British Archaeology (CBA)
    A comprehensive directory of archaeological activity in the UK.

  • Archaeology Data Service (ADS)
    The ADS provides data services to the whole archaeological community. It provides access to a number of catalogues including excavation reports, the ARCHway journals union catalogue and the catalogue of the Society of Antiquaries. It also has a good set of links.

Guides and tutorials

    Hints on assessing the reliability of information you find on the Internet.

  • The web
    A brief guide to finding information which includes links to the main search engines.  

General archaeology-related sites

  • Archnet
    Virtual library for archaeology; you can browse by subject or area and there is a search facility. Has a link to list of museums.

  • BUBL archaeology
    BUBL provides a limited number of carefully selected resources covering all academic subject areas.

  • Intute: Archaeology
    A gateway site carefully selected for archaeology; you can browse or search the site for a specific topic.
    Please note: Updates to Intute ceased in July 2011. Links on the website will no longer be checked.

  • Current archaeology
    The site of the journal. Doesn't provide online access to articles, but does have a searchable handbook which locates current digs, and local organisations.

  • British Academy Portal - Archaeology
    Provides an entry point to available resources for those working in higher education and research. It includes electronic texts, image archives, bibliographies; collections of site pointers, lists of specialised archives; general reference data such as encyclopedias, library directories Other areas also relevant to the study of archaeology: Classical AntiquityMedieval Studies.

  • ScienceResearch.com
    A portal allowing cross-searching of numerous scientific journals and public science databases.

    Abzu is a guide to the rapidly increasing, and widely distributed data relevant to the study and public presentation of the Ancient Near East via the Internet.
  • Çatalhöyük
    This Web site is designed for those interested in the ongoing excavations at Çatalhöyük, Turkey. Its aim is to provide information about the activities of the Project and of the different aspects of the research being conducted at Çatalhöyük.
