Citing a patent

You should include the following information in your bibliography, the exact style will vary according to the citation system you are using:

  1. Name of the patent holder (usually a company) 
  2. Year the patent came into force, in brackets 
  3. Title of the patent, in italics 
  4. Country granting the patent 
  5. Patent number

Example

National Starch and Chemical Corp. (1989). Degradation of granular starch. US Patent: us 4838944.
