Managing references electronically

There are various software packages, such as EndNote, Papyrus or Reference Manager, which enable you to manipulate your lists of references into different formats. These are known as bibliographic management packages. You can build up your own bibliographies and import records retrieved from electronic sources.

  • EndNote - if you are just starting your Masters or PhD you should think about using EndNote to manage your references and help you build your bibliographies when writing papers in Word.
  • Managing references in Microsoft Word 2007 - a new facility in Microsoft Word 2007 lets you add references to a document and then create a bibliography at the end of the text. Full instructions on using this facility are in the IT Services guide called Microsoft Word 2007 Managing references available on their Microsoft Word 2007 Advanced Guides (Level 3) page.
