19th century UK periodicals logoThe 19th Century UK Periodicals database provides primary source material from almost 100 periodicals published between 1800 and 1900. The collection is constantly expanding, currently including two main series on 'New Readerships' and 'Empire'. A number of different subject areas are covered, from women's writing to satirical titles.

Performing a search

When you enter the database you are presented with the basic search screen, where you can simply type in a keyword to start generating results. This search screen also allows you to limit your results to particular years of publication, or to browse the titles covered by the database.

For more detailed search features, why not try the advanced search option? This gives you many more preferences to enhance your search, such as the ability to select a particular subject area or type of publication. You might find the advanced search option useful if you are coming up with too many results in your search.
