Linking to specific books and journals on Unicorn

You can link from Blackboard (or any webpage) to a specific record in the Unicorn catalogue for a book or a journal. This will allow your students to see if it is in the Library and where to find it.

Linking to a book on Unicorn

Use the following base URL and add the ISBN of the book (as used on Unicorn) to the end:

Base URL: http://vlsirsi.rdg.ac.uk/uhtbin/isbn-search/

You can find the ISBN by searching Unicorn and looking at the full record tab. Where there are multiple ISBNs, use any one.

Example: This URL will link to the record for British bats by John Altringham:
http://vlsirsi.rdg.ac.uk/uhtbin/isbn-search/000220147X

Linking to a journal on Unicorn

Use the following base URL and add the ISSN of the journal (as used on Unicorn) to the end:

Base URL: http://vlsirsi.rdg.ac.uk/uhtbin/issn-search/

You can find the ISSN by searching Unicorn and looking at the full record tab. Please be aware that print and online journals often have different ISSNs, so you might need to include both ISSNs to show your students the two different modes of access.

Example: This URL will link to the Journal of Education and Work (print and online records):
http://vlsirsi.rdg.ac.uk/uhtbin/issn-search/1469-9435 or 1363-9080
