Using the Unicorn catalogue effectively

Self-service features

Learn your University username and password. You need them for renewing and placing a hold on books.

Renewing your loans

You can renew your loans using the My Account facility on Unicorn (the Library catalogue). Books can be renewed up to five times if no-one has requested them. Renewing your loans using Unicorn

How do I reserve a book?

You can place a hold on a book which is on loan via Unicorn. We will email you when the book is available for collection. Placing a hold using Unicorn

Inter-site transfers

If a book you want is on the shelf at a different site, you can request to collect it from your home library.

Before you make a trip to the Library...

  • Check your University email and "My account" on Unicorn before you come in, to identify any books which are due back or have holds on them. Checking your account in Unicorn
  • You can save time by checking your reading list on Unicorn from home. Guidance on using Unicorn
  • Place holds on any books which you need to be transferred from another site or which are currently on loan. Placing a hold using Unicorn
  • If you will want to do any photocopying in the Library, make sure you have your Campus/Access Card and know your PIN. What is my PIN?
