Collections Project gains momentum!
Wondering how the Collections Project is going? Our goal is to serve the whole University from Main Library Whiteknights by 2011 when Bulmershe Court ceases academic operations - essential texts on open shelves, plenty of study space and research material quickly retrievable from a new secure store.
The Library staff team (comprising liaison librarians, dedicated Project staff and many others) has made a good start reviewing our entire stock of well over 1.2 million items. To make room for more study space and Bulmershe working collections, we're allocating important but less-used books to closed access storage - 25,000 items so far - and disposing of unwanted items. We will soon start on the journals too.
The University has also made progress towards acquiring a new store to house less-used research material off-campus. We are investigating fitting out a warehouse about ten minutes drive from Whiteknights. Its proximity will enable us to fetch back any material you need very quickly.
