Mature applicants
What are your entry requirements?
There are no formal examination requirements but we insist on some form of recent academic study, for example an access course to higher education. We know that mature entrants who have no recent experience of studying find it very difficult to adjust to the demands of what is a very rigorous degree programme, so we would recommend that if you are thinking of studying law as a mature student, that you first pursue a foundation or access course.
Do you interview mature applicants?
It is our normal practice to interview all mature applicants to whom we are considering making an offer. For many applicants these interviews take place in late February or early March, since this allows those who have commenced Access or A level courses in the previous September to feel more confident and to give a better account of themselves. However, interviews will take place at other times where appropriate.
Do you offer a law degree which can be studied on a part time basis?
Not at undergraduate level.
Can I fit my studies around child care arrangements?
The degree programme is full time; lectures, tutorials and seminars can be timetabled at any time between 9 am and 6 pm, Monday to Friday. To the extent that it can (and demands on space are high), the School of Law endeavours, when timetabling tutorials and seminars, to meet the needs of those who have to make child care arrangements.
Will I be able to work part time during term time?
The university recognises that students may need to take paid work during term time; it recommends that no more than 16 hours per week of such work should be undertaken.
