Undergraduate Admissions FAQ

General Admissions

What are your standard entry requirements?

340 UCAS points (AAB) from 3 A Levels excluding General Studies and Key Skills. See entry requirements.

Do you accept the International Baccalaureate?

6, 6, 6 in three higher level subjects with an overal score of 34.

Do you require the National Admissions Test for Law (LNAT)?

No. The School of Law at the University of Reading does not require this.

Where can I find further information on the new tuition fees for 2012/13?

For further information on the University's new fee levels for students starting their degree from 2012 please see undergraduate fees 2012/13 .

What is your applicants/intake ratio?

Although figures will vary from year to year, in 2007 there were around 1200 applicants (home/EU and international) and our intake was 165 students. It is important to note that provided you are predicted the required grades, an offer will be made to you.

Is it worth applying if I am predicted lower grades than your requirement?

It may be, because we may be able to make offers to people with lower predicted grades in certain cases, where particular individual circumstances so justify. However, it is obviously prudent to put down at least one other university on your UCAS form with a lower grades requirement as an insurance offer.

Am I at a disadvantage if I haven't done Law at A-level?

No, absolutely not. Studying for a law degree does not pre-suppose any prior knowledge and most of our applicants have not taken law at A level.

Do you interview applicants?

Only in exceptional circumstances (and in the case of mature applicants).

What if I don't meet the grades requirement

Ultimately, the decision on whether to admit an applicant onto the degree is at the discretion of the admissions tutors. We are prepared to admit people who do not meet our grades requirement but only in exceptional circumstances. In some years we have taken a limited number of people who have just missed our entry requirements. In most years, however, we have filled all of our places with those who have met or exceeded our entry requirements. We also look carefully at applicants whose exam performance has been affected by e.g. illness or severe family problems. It is best to let us know as soon as possible if you find yourself in the latter position and provide us with supporting evidence (e.g. doctor's note).
