The Law Society
The Law Society is a student led organisation which seeks to provide its members with valuable information, organises net-working events, subsidises a variety of social events and generally provide Law students with the chance to interact among themselves. As a student run body, the Committee members know how important it is for students to settle into university and the importance of having a social life alongside studying for a demanding degree. The Student Law Society organise or participate in a range of events which allow students to interact on a formal and informal basis. Some of these include:
- Freshers' Fair: students come along to join the Society and therefore do not miss any of the events for the forthcoming academic year.
- Freshers' Social Reception: this is the first chance Part 1 Law Students have to meet everyone in their year as well as the Law Society Committee members and members of the Law School academic staff.
- Introduction to Mooting: students interested in mooting can come to this event and find out more about the forthcoming competitions.
- Pro Bono Fair: an afternoon when students can explore the opportunities for Pro Bono work and meet representatives from the various organisations involved.
- Ascot Social: a popular social event for anyone who fancies a day at the races.
- Law Fair and Kaplan Quiz: students are encouraged to attend the Law Fair in order to find out about the many career possibilities open to Law graduates. Many then choose to attend the following annual quiz night provided by the Kaplan Law School.
- Book Sale: organised by the Law Society, the annual Book Sale is the perfect opportunity for members to obtain good condition text books at considerably reduced prices from other Law students who no longer have a need for them.
- Trip Abroad: an annual trip away is organised by the Law Society. Previous destinations have included Dublin and Amsterdam.
- Annual Law Society Dinner: a chance to dress up and enjoy the biggest event on the Law Society's social calendar.
