EPSRC KT Challenge

The University of Reading has has won grant funding from EPSRC after identifying three ways to facilitate and enhance knowledge transfer – one-day workshops which focus on the University's core research areas, funding for short-term collaborative projects of up to six months to test out the feasibility of innovative projects, and training sessions on how to work with business with places being won on the basis of an enterprise idea and contestants facing a Dragon's Den-style contest for £10,000 of funding.

The funding for short collaborative projects of up to six months duration to test out the feasibility of innovative projects will be available from April 2008.  Companies with a need for a quick piece of research or development work can also take advantage of the scheme, providing opportunities for PhD students to work with industry on an industry driven project.

The Business+ programme helps small and medium-sized businesses to improve their productivity and competitiveness by providing skills and ideas of high quality graduates backed by University knowledge and resources.

What can Business + do for your business?

• develop a new product
• improve an existing one
• optimise production
• improve marketing strategy
• optimise business methods

A graduate works full-time on a project (between 3 and 12 months) with regular support from the University staff.
