KTP for academics
What are Knowledge Transfer Partnerships ?
Knowledge Transfer Partnerships is a national programme to encourage business/knowledge base collaborations to improve the competitiveness and productivity of businesses through the use of the knowledge, technology and skills that reside within the University.
KTP can help you :
- Lead rewarding and challenging collaborations with innovative businesses and charities that apply your knowledge to important business issues.
- Supervise and act as mentors for graduates working on business projects.
- Enhance the industrial and commercial relevance of teaching and research.
- Attract income that can be included in RAE submissions.
- Identify new research themes and undergraduate and postgraduate projects.
- Publish high quality research papers.
Who can participate ?
Academic supervisors are normally employees of the University who are actively involved in teaching activities.Other members of staff with relevant expertise can also provide expertise to KTPs.
What grant funding is available ?
There is a standard amount of funding provided to the University for every KTP Associate, which covers Associate employment costs, academic and secretarial support, training, travel and some equipment and consumables. The company will contribute a percentage of the budget depending on its size, with the balance coming from the UK Government or Sponsors.
What types of projects and companies?
Projects can be undertaken in a wide range of areas including: product and service design, manufacturing, technical innovation, business processes (including IT and social sciences) and commercial development. Knowledge Transfer Partnerships are particularly useful for companies that could benefit from knowledge base expertise and offer an alternative option to consultancy or student placements.
The Knowledge Transfer Centre can provide further information for specific potential projects.
