About Inclusive Environments

Peter Barker OBE
Visiting Professor

Peter Barker was appointed as the visiting Professor in Inclusive Environments at The University of Reading in 2001. Peter has a long association with the Research Group for Inclusive Environments, and was involved in the establishment of the MSc Inclusive Environments.

Peter was Joint Project Director of Project Rainbow with Keith Bright and has also given his invaluable expertise to many of the Groups other research projects. Despite retiring last year as Head of JMU Access Partnership, he is still heavily involved in the access world and continues to serve as a member on the Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee (DPTAC) and is Chair of the Built Environment Group.

Peter is a member of the BS8300 Review Steering Committee and the Joint Committee on the Mobility of Blind and Partially Sighted People (JCMBPS). He has written several publications including Building Sight, The Sign Design Guide and The Office Design Guide. In 1999 Peter was awarded the OBE for his services to the mobility of disabled people.
