Why Study at Reading?
The University of Reading is among the UK's most research-intensive institutions, and is one of the top 1% of universities in terms of worldwide rankings. It is a global institution, which enjoys a world-class reputation for teaching, research and enterprise and it is a leading force in British and international higher education. The University maintains a supportive, challenging and high-quality experience for students. The International Study and Language Institute (ISLI), which organises the International Summer School, is a first-class teaching institute with over 40 years' experience in providing academic and language programmes for international students. International Summer School courses are created and taught by expert teaching staff within the ISLI and from across the University of Reading subject Departments.
There are excellent resources related to all the subjects you will study on your course, including 24 hour study space and a wide range of electronic resources. There are three on site museums and you will also have access to our special collections of rare books, archives and manuscripts.
The International Study and Language Institute has a self-access centre where you can practise your language skills in between lessons. Our students are treated as full University students during their stay. This means that you will have the same access to all facilities, including the Library services, computer rooms and Sports Park, and you will receive discounts at campus shops.
We aim to integrate your studies with your social programme, giving you the opportunity to socialise with fellow students whilst experiencing British Culture and making the most of your time in the UK. Trips include outings such as to the Reading International Solidarity Centre and full day trips out to locations such as Oxford, where you can also mix with students who are studying other courses. Our International Summer School students typically meet together for lunch and past students have enjoyed the sense of academic community.
The University of Reading has a beautiful award-winning campus, and is ideally located at the heart of the Thames Valley region, just 25 minutes by train from London and 20 minutes from Oxford. The campus includes a lake, rare trees and a botanic garden and is just a short walk away from Reading town centre. Reading includes a variety of shops, bars and cafes and there is a safe and inclusive feel to the town. The town is one of the UK's top ten retail destinations but it also contains many beautiful and historic buildings, including a nationally acclaimed Victorian formal garden and the ruins of Reading Abbey, the burial place of a King of England.
Stay at Reading's offers rooms based on payment per night rather than month, meaning you can choose to stay longer to explore the UK.
