A Taste of UK Higher Education

The 2014 International Summer School saw new friendships being made between students from France, Germany, Romania, Macau and Thailand. The courses offered academic English language, content options, sessions on British culture and history, and some self-directed study. Topics studied were as diverse as:

  • Stadium architecture
  • Victorian society
  • Classroom management
  • UK social classes
  • Secret mass surveillance
  • Children's literature
  • Iron age archaeology (we saw pre-Roman oyster shells buried near Reading!)
  • Academic referencing
  • Macroeconomic data handling
  • Museum curating

As well as enjoying the beautiful Whiteknights campus, students visited Oxford and the archaeological site of Silchester. And, they saw the Queen!

The minimum age for students on this course is 17 and students are expected to have a reasonable level of English (4.5-6.5 IELTS) in order to engage with study. English Language lessons involve small groups of students taught by university level teachers of English for Academic Purposes. British Culture and module options are taught by subject experts from across the University of Reading. You will benefit from our self-access centre, library facilities, academic and social trips, while working with a group of students from different parts of the world.
