Employing visa nationals

The University of Reading is an A-rated sponsor with licences under the points-based immigration system to issue a limited number of Certificates of Sponsorship (CoS) under Tier 2 (General) and Tier 5 Temporary Worker. The licences were obtained after rigorous examination of our HR systems and processes to ensure full compliance with legislation on the prevention of illegal working.

The Human Resources (HR) department deals with all employment issues relating to visa nationals. The Immigration and Work Entitlement pages contain comprehensive information on all aspects of immigration and work entitlement and provide access to downloadable guides on the following:

  • Sponsorship duties;
  • Immigration guidance notes for recruitment;
  • Invite to interview letter;
  • Immigration: review and monitoring;
  • Immigration advertising;
  • Biometric residence permit checking;
  • Sponsored Researchers (Tier 5);
  • Work experience and academic visitors at the University of Reading;
  • Employing nationals from the EEA (European Economic Area) - note such individuals are not 'visa nationals';
