I was first employed at the University as a trainee technician working in the Department of Soil Science, based at the London Road campus. My post was the Pedology technician. I ran practical classes and assisted research students. As the role progressed I was promoted several times. The department moved to the Whiteknights campus, and I was given the opportunity to manage the main teaching lab.
As a Teaching and Research technician in SAGES I provide support for undergraduate and masters practical classes. This involves preparing the classes, making solutions and sourcing any material required for a class. I help demonstrate in classes and supervise student projects. Within the Russell building there is a small store which I operate, I manage the stock and order chemicals and equipment for teaching classes and research students.
