Workshops

Students in workshopThe Study Advice team offer regular workshops throughout the year on a variety of topics as part of the Student Services Directorate training programme (STEP). These sessions are free of charge and open to students from all departments. Many workshops are equally useful for undergraduate and postgraduate students. You are welcome to attend as many or as few workshops as you like.

Our regular workshop programme operates on Wednesday afternoons in termtime. No need to book in advance - just turn up on the day. If a workshop is heavily over-subscribed, we will try to run it again.

Slides and handouts from workshops can be accessed through our Study Advice Blackboard site.

Attending our workshops can count towards the training component for the Red Award. Please bring your sheet along to the workshop to be signed: we cannot guarantee that it will be signed retrospectively.

If you would like more advice on any of the topics we cover but cannot attend a workshop, have a look at our Study Guides, or book an individual advice session with a Study Adviser.

Accessing workshop slides and materials on Blackboard

Workshop slides and other materials like handouts and exercises are stored on the Study Advice Blackboard Learn site, along with many other useful study resources. Study Advice on Blackboard Learn is an Organisation rather than a Course. You can access it as a Guest without enrolling, but if you enrol, you could get updates on events and new resources that could help you to greater success in your studies. The site has been set up so that you can enrol yourself and get instant access rather than waiting for someone else to carry out enrolment for you.

To find Study Advice on Blackboard Learn and enrol:

  • Log into Blackboard Learn as usual.
  • Click on the Enrolments tab.
  • In the Organisation Search box, type in 'Study Advice'.
  • Please note - do not search for Study Advice in the 'Course Search' box on this page, as you will not find it! It only appears in the Organisation Search.
  • In the search results, you should see an Organisation marked 'Study Advice'.
  • Click on the arrows to give you a list of actions, then click on 'Enroll'.

Please let us know if you have any problems with this at studyadvice@reading.ac.uk.
