Resources for postgraduates

Postgrad studentsPostgraduate students face many similar learning issues to undergraduates - for instance, preparing for examinations, managing your time, focusing your reading and research, and presenting your work in written, verbal and visual forms. Dealing with these issues at postgraduate level means developing new strategies to respond to higher academic expectations, more independent study, and other changes in personal and academic circumstances.

The University Study Advice team offers 30 minute or longer one-to-one advice sessions, workshops and other resources tailored to the learning issues facing postgraduate students. In addition to the links on the left, you may also find these pages useful:

A list of our Study Guides, including giving presentations, referencing and avoiding plagiarism, and effective practice in note-taking and reading

Our workshop programme, with some workshops specifically tailored to postgraduates

The postgraduate Freshers webpages have lots of useful information about being a postgraduate student at Reading

Informal support groups for postgrads

MasterWorks is an informal support group for Masters students from all disciplines. There are no meetings planned at present, but you can access the group on Blackboard, where there are resources and a discussion forum (search for 'MasterWorks' in the Organisation Catalog), and on Facebook (search for 'MasterWorks at the University of Reading').

Dr Who? is an informal support group for research postgraduates to meet and discuss issues relevant to them.

For more information on either of these groups, contact Michelle Reid.
