Kick-start 2015!

It's a New Year! Time for new challenges and a new you… Whether you made resolutions or not, you can use the new term to get a head start on your studies and your extra-curricular activities. We've drawn together some links to help you make the most of the new term and make plans for your future.

On your marks...

The Study Advice team will be running their training sessions (more details can be found on the workshops page of their website). You can also pop in for a one-to-one advice session with one of the advisers, or make use of their online resources. Check the Study Advice website for more information.

The Library will be open 24hrs a day Monday to Friday, until 21:00 on Saturday and open from 08:30 on Sunday. More info can be found on the Library website. You can also make use of 'The Study' in RUSU if you want to do some late night learning.

One STEP ahead

There's also a range of training sessions run under our Student Training and Experience Programme (STEP) which will help you get ahead in your studies. These cover a whole range of areas, including IT skills, personal development, careers and study skills. You can click here for the complete listing for the term, and most of the sessions count towards the RED Award. And of course, there's still time to sign up for the RED Award…

PLanT some ideas

Have you had an idea that you think could change your Department (for the better)? Why not get involved in the PLanT (Partnership in Learning and Teaching) Project? The University and RUSU are working together to encourage staff and students to come up with innovative projects to enhance and develop aspects of your course. To find out more visit the PLanT Project pages on the RUSU website.

Get set...

The accommodation list has been published by RUSU lettings, hall applications are open for returners and RUSU are running 'Find a housemate' sessions. Now's the time to get that dream house (and housemates) you've always wanted.

Give it a GO week

RUSU's Give it a GO week will be running again this year Saturday 17 January to Sunday 25 January. There will be opportunities to try your hand at new activities and sports. There will be a 'sign-up' fayre on Wednesday 14 January.

It's a great way to take part in new sports, societies or volunteering projects! Make sure you attend the 'Sign-up Fayre' and get your name on the list for something exciting and new. Find out more on the Give it a GO pages on the RUSU website

Green Week

Green Week will be taking place from 9-13 February. There will be a host of activities and events during the course of the week.

Let us know what you think

The Spring Term is traditionally Surveys Term… It's your chance to tell us what you think about a whole range of facets to University life. The important ones are the National Student Survey (for UG finalists) and the Postgraduate Taught Experience survey for taught PGs. We'll also be asking your opinion on other things like the Student Charter and Travel in and around campus. Don't be shy - let us know what you think!

Keep an eye out for the Student News eNewsletter that will be landing in your inbox in a couple of weeks. Lots of links to handy information to help you make the Spring term a success.

Now is the time to start looking ahead and make plans for life beyond University, no matter what year you are in.

The Careers, Placement and Experience Centre is on hand to give you careers advice whatever stage you are at in your course. In fact, the earlier you start thinking about your future career the better (although it's never too late!). They also run a Job Shop (based in the Students' Union) to help you find term-time work. Don't forget to either sign up for the RED Award or complete it if you are part way through.

Think about a Postgraduate course

If you are enjoying your undergraduate studies here we would love for you to come back! So much so that we're currently running an Alumni Discount scheme whereby we'll give you some money off of the first year of your Postgraduate studies with us. Click here to find out more about the alumni discounts.
