Withdrawals and transfers

withdrawals and transfersYou may come to consider leaving the University, either permanently or temporarily. You may be hoping to transfer to another university, to begin another programme next year here at Reading, or you may be hoping to come back to your current programme in the future. Whatever the  situation please go first to the Helpdesk/Carrington Building. You will be invited to discuss your future plans and offered advice and guidance. You may be referred to other people within the University.

What to do if you are thinking of leaving

For undergraduate students, it is especially important that you know that you will be charged the full tuition fee for the year if you are still in attendance on 1 December, even if you decide to leave later in the year. At the latest we need to know your intentions by 30 November

Please do not rush to make a decision, come and discuss it with us:

  1. Go to the Carrington Building Helpdesk and let us know that you are considering leaving
  2. Helpdesk staff will give you suggestions of who you should see, to talk through your decision
  3. The really important thing at this stage is to let us know that you are thinking about leaving since we don't want you to incur tuition fee debts if you do decide to leave. Remember the key date for leaving and not incurring fees is 30 November.

International students

International students who require a visa to study in the UK should note that in the event of your withdrawal, the University would have to inform the UK Border Authority that you are no longer studying, and you should return home. If you intend to study at another institution you will need to obtain a new Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies and a new Visa for that institution before being allowed to start. See RUSU International Advice webpage for help and advice.
