Parking charges increase and changes to Pay & Display parking

Parking charges will be increasing from 1 August 2019 in line with cost of living increases and there will be changes to the Pay and Display parking in car parks 1 an 1A. These changes are as follows:

Parking Permit

The cost of an annual parking permit at the University is set to rise by 2% which will mean an increase across grades as follows:

Grade Band 2019/20 charges (£)
Grade 1-3 52
Grade 4-5 104
Grade 6-8 130
Grade 9 and above 208
Blue badge holders Free
Temporary (day) permits* 3.30

* limited to 25 per year per member of staff

Pay and Display

From 1 August 2019, it will cost £1.50 an hour (or £10.00 per day) to use Pay & Display parking in car park 1 and 1A on the Whiteknights campus. Currently, an occasional user can park for free for two hours or pay £3.20 for the day. This has encouraged the use of the car parks by those who normally use public transport or those who find parking here significantly cheaper than anywhere locally.

The change does not impact colleagues with annual parking permits, who can continue to use car park 1 and 1A as normal.

Changes to SportsPark parking

SportsPark members will be contacted separately by the SportsPark informing them of the new arrangements for parking in car park 1.

The policy of not permitting students to bring a car to the site including Halls unless they have applied for and been approved a permit in line with the Student Parking Criteria has not changed.

Income from the parking permits contributes towards the upkeep of the University's 45 car parks, including remedial works, signs and small-scale CCTV improvements.

The University’s campuses have a limited number of parking spaces, and we encourage staff to use alternative modes of transport wherever possible.

Information on alternative modes of transport, including any staff discounts, is available on our Sustainable Travel website.

Information on parking at the University’s campuses, including how to secure a permit, is available on our Staff Parking website.
