Race Equality Action Team needs volunteers
Tuesday, 27 November 2018
If you feel strongly about students and staff from all ethnicities having the same opportunities to thrive, we would like to invite you to join the Race Equality Action Team and the Cultural Diversity Group.
We are looking for up to four people to join RE-Act (Race Equality Action Team) and a Chair for the Cultural Diversity Group.
As a member of RE-Act, you will be work alongside colleagues from Student Services, Planning and Strategy Office, Graduate School, HR and RUSU to oversee progress against the University’s Race Equality Action Plan.
The action plan was launched last week and its key themes are:
- Understanding and celebrating race and ethnicity
- Report and Support processes
- Zero tolerance to racism
- Attracting and retaining diverse staff talent
- Supporting BAME staff progression and development
- Reducing ethnicity differentials in reward and recognition
- Reducing ethnicity attainment gaps
- Creating diverse and relevant curricula
- Building links with the local community
- Intersectionality of race and gender and race and religion
Professor Ellie Highwood, Dean for Diversity and Inclusion, leads RE-Act. More information on how to apply for the RE-Act Team.
The Cultural Diversity Group is a staff network open to anyone who is interested in or has experience of how race and ethnicity might influence the experience of staff or students at the University of Reading.
The group’s current membership runs to around 45 colleagues from across the University – from professional services and schools, with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.
As the Chair of the Cultural Diversity Group, you will shape the work of the group. You do not have to lead or be involved in every event and will have administrative support available to do the role. The role is expected to be up to 0.2 FTE, and can be split between two people.
More information on applying to be the Chair of Cultural Diversity Group.
The deadline for expressions of interest for either opportunity is Friday 7 December.
Please email your expression of interest to Ellie Highwood (e.j.highwood@reading.ac.uk).
