Water supply back on; campus open as usual

Water supply issues

The water pressure at Earley Gate is back to normal.

Colleagues are advised to come in as usual, as all the buildings on the Whiteknights campus are open.

If you drive to work, please remember that in addition to our Shinfield Road and Pepper Lane entrances, access to Whiteknights campus is now available from Upper Redlands Road (via the Windsor Drive entrance), and the Foxhill Gates. This route allows access through to car park 2, and then onto 1A, 3 and 4

You can find more information about this on the staff portal.

What caused water supply issues?

Water supply to the campus was disrupted on Wednesday evening because of burst pipe near Earley Gate. Among the buildings affected by this were Agriculture, Harry Pitt (Meteorology/Psychology) and TOB1.

Following the failure of a temporary repair by Thames Water, a decision was taken by Professor  Robert Van de Noort (Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Academic Planning and Resource) to close buildings and send occupants home due to concerns over the ability to provide welfare facilities.

A permanent repair was scheduled for Wednesday night and completed this morning.
