University ranked 9th for Careers service; Henley wins award

University shield

It has been a good month for the Careers teams at the University.

Reading is ranked 9th in Student Crowd’s 20 Best Universities for Career Services, while Henley Business School has won an award for the 'Best Strengths-based career development initiative'.

The Student Crowd ranking was based on a survey of students from every university in the country. Students were asked to review their careers services and over 7000 of them responded to the survey.

Nearly 97% of our students participating in the survey said they would recommend the University to their friends and this is partly down to the excellent Careers support at Reading.

The University has invested significantly to expand the Careers team and employability support. Our students benefit from 1:1 career coaching, bespoke career development resources, interview and recruitment support and hands-on opportunities to engage in extracurricular training and activities to develop a skill set that makes them stand out.

Reading students can benefit from the award-winning Thrive mentoring programme. Many of our students have developed their professional network and increased their interpersonal skills with the help of the scheme’s 500+ mentors.

Henley award

Henley Careers were awarded 'Best Strengths-based career development initiative' from the Strengths Partnership for their use of strengths-based careers delivery.  The other winners were; Channel 4 for their Women in Leadership initiative, and Siemens for their Gamified Graduate Recruitment programme.

Based on research and application from positive psychology, a Strengths approach enables a more productive pathway towards career goals than using only a skills-based approach.

Having a career conversation using positive psychology gives a structure of solutions. Henley Business School uses Strengths in career delivery across all programmes (UGs, PGTS all MBAs) as employers are increasingly using it for recruitment and selection but greater delivery is for MBAs so they are able to apply into their work. Evaluations on our delivery of strengths are over 90% Good/Excellent in all categories.
