End of year message from Vice-Chancellor Sir David Bell

End of year message to staff 2016

Colleagues

As the year comes to a close, my attention turns to reflecting on the year gone by and the achievements of everyone who works here at the University.

Engaging with colleagues is one of the great privileges of my role. Day in and day out, I never cease to be amazed by the rich diversity and creativity of what we achieve in our University.

As you know, 2016 marked our 90th anniversary – a celebration of nine decades of excellence. This year we have reflected on our ground-breaking research and global impact; the tens of thousands of students we have educated; and the hard work done by successive generations of staff.

Many of you will be returning to family and friends over the holiday period. I trust that it will be a time of rest and relaxation, as well as a chance to recharge the batteries. After a lively and interesting year, both inside and outside the University, I look forward to 2017 with optimism and hope – and the opportunity to work closely with you again in the coming 12 months.

Let me conclude by wishing you a merry Christmas and a happy new year.

Sir David Bell KCB

Vice-Chancellor, University of Reading
