University of Reading remains in top 200 universities worldwide

THE rankings 2016-17

The University of Reading has consolidated its top 200 worldwide position in the latest Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2016-17. This firmly places Reading in the top 1% of more than 20,000 universities around the world.

The results released today rank Reading 192nd worldwide meaning that in five of the last six years, Reading has been ranked in the top 200 universities worldwide.

Reading is also 32nd in the UK out of 91 institutions. Other highlights from the rankings include:

  • Reading ranking in the top 100 universities globally for international outlook (ranked 83rd)
  • Reading ranking in the global top 25% for teaching and research
  • Scores for research productivity and citation impact rising.

The Times Higher Education World University Ranking increased the number of global universities this year to 980 from 800 last year – showing that Reading continues to compete in a tough global market.

The success of the Times Higher Education World University Ranking follows on from Reading achieving its second-highest ever ranking in the QS World University Rankings published earlier this month.

Vice-Chancellor, Sir David Bell, said: “The Times Higher Education World University Ranking is one of the most prestigious league tables. It is very encouraging that we are firmly in the top 200 universities globally, given the tough and competitive nature of the higher education sector.

“I am particularly pleased that we are ranked 83rd in the world for international outlook. We partner with institutions across the globe and earlier this year opened our new University of Reading Malaysia campus. Our ambition, now and towards our centenary in 2026, is to be a truly global institution and to continue to be counted among the very best universities in the UK and internationally.”
